After the priest had rested he told the people that he felt spiritual activity on the rock and that a temple had to come to honour the Balinese sea gods. It is believed that the many poisonous snakes that live on this island, guard the temple against evil spirits and intruders. In 1980 this temple was renovated by the Indonesian government.

Medewi
is a beach with rocky coast and big waves. Making this beach as an ideal place for surfing. The waves in Medewi are safe and could be tried by almost every level of surfer. According to its history, the name “Medewi” was taken from the name of the village where this beach is located. It was estimated that around 1912, the village area of Medewi was administratively opened for settlements before it was a forest. The first group of people who used this area as their settlement was a group of people from Mendoyo Dauh Tukad Village, Mendoyo District, Jembrana who at that time needed a new place for living. Before the deforestation was done, the area of the forest was full of “ketket” plants. Ketket is a kind wild plant which has a lot of thorns. In Balinese, thorn is called “duwi” or “dewi.” With the existence of the ketket forest, these people then named this area as the Medewi forest means a forest with a lot of thorns. After so long, this area was populated by more and more people, then these group of people created a fix settlements and declared this area as a village which also covered the area of Medewi Beach.

Purancak Temple
The coastal village of Purancak is named for its ancient temple, Purancak Temple, where the Hindu priest Dang Hyang Nirartha first set foot on Bali in 1546. Nirartha was responsible for facilitating a refashioning of Balinese Hinduism. He was an important promoter of the idea of moksha in Indonesia. He founded the Shaivite priesthood that is now ubiquitous in Bali, and is now regarded as the ancestor of all Shaivite pundits.

Phinisi

With its long, elegant bow, towering twin masts, streamlined wooden hull and seven billowing sails, the traditional Indonesian sailing boat known as a phinisi evokes a bygone era. Still built by hand in the traditional manner, these majestic sailing ships are a living spirit from the golden age of sailing, which ended in the West in the early twentieth century, but still thrives in the waters of Indonesia. Since the mid-19th century these boats have been designed and built by the Bugis, a seafaring people originating from the island of Sulawesi. The boats were originally used to carry cargoes across the shallow seas of the Indonesian archipelago. Following the monsoon winds, they sailed from island to island gathering exotic feathers, sandalwood, spices and gold to sell at a significant profit in distant ports like Singapore. After offloading their wares to eager merchants, they would fill their holds with European and Chinese manufactured goods to bring back to their homeland.

Day 7 Negara - Menjangan

There are even four large extinct volcanoes in the centre of the park, which can be seen from a distance.

De Pura Pulaki is separated by a road from the sea and is built against a mountain. The temple is even partly from the mountain. Because the mountain is so close to the sea, the temple is seen by the Balinese Hindus as a place with great spiritual and energetic value. Because of this you will see many Balinese Hindus throughout the day who come to pray. Moreover, every car that passes the temple will honk in recognition of the temple. The temple commemorates the arrival of the Javanese priest Nirartha to Bali in the 16th century. It is said that when the priest entered the forest, he was accompanied by monkeys. In honour of the monkeys, he founded the temple and the monkeys became the guardians of the complex.

De Melanting
Tempel is diagonally situated on a cliff, surrounded by beautiful black walls. The temple and surrounding rock are monitored by theft hungry monkeys. The inhabitants of Bali see the monkeys as descendants of Hanuman the monkey god. The monkeys are therefore considered sacred.

De Banyuwedang
