Day 1 Banjarmasin
Upon arrival in Banjarmasin there is a transfer to the hotel in the city of Banjarmasin. The rest of the day is for leisure. In Banjarmasin the Masjid Raya Sabilal Muhtadin can be visited, the biggest mosque of Banjarmasin built in 1981. Or visit the floating market with a busy and colourful gathering of little boats and canoes. There are several stores and souvenir shops in Banjarmasin.
Day 2 Banjarmasin - Meratus Mountains
At dawn there is a transfer to Kiyo, a village on the foot of the Meratus Mountains. From here a trekking will start to the Meratus Mountains, passing hills, forests and traditional farmland. A night under the shining stars will be unforgettable.
The Meratus Mountainof the province of South Kalimantan in Borneo, Indonesia, ranges up to 2000 meters above sea level with the highest peak ‘Mount Besar’. Great rivers cascade down from the highlands, The Barito River is a crucial infrastructure channel between the coast and the deep interior. The river highways attract travelers who want to explore into the jungle regions, and visit the traditional living Dayak tribes. The area is covered by lush tropical rainforest, rivers, mossy stones, and tremendous waterfalls. The area is the habitat of the Bukit Dayak, most of them are still maintaining the ancestor belief and tradition, such as; nomadic farming, animals hunting, and ritual ceremonies as part of their lives. They live in so called longhouses as the centre of ritual ceremonies and community. The longhouse here is rather different with other longhouse in all places of Borneo; it is a rectangle building where sleeping rooms all over the building surrounds the communal veranda in the middle. Day 3 Meratus Mountain - Jumantir
Be awoken by a stunning sunrise and the sounds of nature. Today a trekking is made to mount Tiranggang. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and breathe in the fresh air. After a rest the journey continues with a trekking to the beautiful Sungai Karuh waterfall to refresh yourself. Then hiking to Jumantir on the foot of mount Besar.
Day 4 Jumantir - Mount Besar
In the morning the trekking goes on through the primary tropical rainforest to the peak of mount Besar, the roof of South Borneo. From the peak you will have a beautiful panoramic view of the pristine rainforest of South Borneo. Afterwards the tent will be set up for the night.
Day 5 Mount Besar - Sungai Karuh
When you wake up, take a moment to realize how close you are to nature. Absorb the energy of Mother Earth to get ready for a trekking to the Sungai Karuh waterfall. On the way you will see the colourful wild orchids. After the tent is set up at the riverside, the rest of the day will be for leisure. Enjoy the peace of this unique place to regain new energy for the next day.
Day 6 Sungai Karuh - Muhara Maliau
At daybreak there is a trekking to Muhara Maliau, passing the beautiful valleys and tropical rainforest. Be enchanted by the beautiful scenery and feel the energy that the nature provides.
Day 7 Muhara Maliau - Kadayang
This part of the trekking has the river Tembatang as its destination. Crossing tropical rainforest, high hills and fast streaming rivers. Take notice of the green rainforest over here. The river lies on the border of the central Julu Sungai and the South Julu Sungai area. Then to Kadayang village through the rainforest and beautiful valley. In this village, traditional farms can be found and the citizens still live in a traditional primitive way. Overnight takes place at a local house to get a good picture of the daily life of the people.
Day 8 Kadayang - Loksado
Today this adventurous journey goes downhill to Loksado passing several houses on the way. These houses are called ‘Balai’ by the local people and are built on three meter high poles. Some houses inhabit up to 25 families. In Loksado there is a transfer to the lodge to relax.
Day 9 Loksado - Banjarmasin
Enjoy a lovely breakfast in the morning and then get ready to learn and see how bamboo rafts are being made. The rafts are used by the local people to cross the rivers. Make an adventurous trip over the river with a bamboo raft, passing beautiful panoramas of the tropical rainforest along the riverside. The bus will wait downstream for a transfer to Banjarmasin.
Day 10 Banjarmasin
In the morning you will leave Banjarmasin and transfer to the airport for your next destination. End of this unique and adventurous journey.
