Day 1 Samarinda
Upon arrival there is a transfer to Loa Janan, to board the houseboat for an exciting adventure on the Mahakam river.
Day 2 Samarinda - Muara Muntai
Today you will experience a short sight seeing at Muara Muntai Wooden village, then crossing Jempang Lake by motor canoe to Mancong. During the cruise you could see Rain forest and wildlife at Ohong creek like monkey’s and birds, Upon arrival at Mancong, you are welcomed with a traditional ceremony by the Dayaq Benuaq, one of the Oldest Dayak Longhouse of East Kalimantan can be found here.
Day 3 Muara Muntai - Melak
This bright and early morning you will leave to Muara Pahu. A boat cruises up the Bolowan river, along the river bank. Here the Exotic Kutai culture can be seen colliding with the nature pass alongside. Try to spot the rare red endangered Borneo longnose monkeys before the journey goes into the black water peat swamp forest land of Jintan at the Delta of Semayang Lake. In this place is the best opportunities to spot the fresh water dolphins
Day 4 Melak - Data Bilang
After sunrise the journey head to Melak, followed by a drive to Eheng passing beautiful highland to reach the old longhouse of Dayak Tunjung. Then a visit is brought to Kersik Luway to explore the forest, if lucky the famous black orchid can be seen. In the afternoon the Ombau Asa waterfall is visited, an exciting place for swimming.
Day 5 / 6 Datah Bilang - Long Bagun
These days you will cruise over the mighty Mahakam River. On the way a stop is made at Datah Bilang and Rukun Damai to observe the way of life of the Dayak tribes and their Longhouses.
The Great Mahakam River is the third longest on earth, cascading down from the highlands and a crucial infrastructure channel between the coast and the deep interior. The Mahakam river highway attract tourists who want to travel into the jungle regions. The indigenous Dayak settlements along the Mahakam River of East Kalimantan is an ideal way to experience the incredible culture, where village elders practice traditional medicine and mark their status with intricate body tattoos and remarkably heavy ear adornments. East Kalimantan ’s dense jungle and wide terrain of wetlands have traditionally kept the region isolated from all but the adventurous travellers and along the upper reaches of the rivers, you can discover the rich Dayak Culture. |

Day 7 Long Bagun - Tenggarong
After breakfast the long boat cruises between the high rocks passing the rapids. Followed by a trekking to explore the jungle. This day ends in Tenggarong where the evening can be spend free.
Day 8 Tenggarong - Balikpapan
At dawn the journey heads for Balikpapan. But first a visit is made to the former palace of Sultan Kutai Kertanegara. Here you will see the Sultan's impressive collection of heirlooms, ceramics, Dayak's art and culture items. From Balikpapan a flight leaves to Makassar, the next part of this journey.
Day 9 Balikpapan - Makassar
Upon arrival in Makassar follows a transfer to the hotel located in the center of the seaside town. Makassar is famous for its beautiful sunset. From the terrace of your cottage you can enjoy the amazing views. Makassar is a port city on the west coast of South Sulawesi. Feel the unique energy that this island has to offer.
Makassar (between 1972 and 1999, called Ujung Padang) is the vibrant capital of South Sulawesi. Because of its central location, the city functions for centuries as a gateway to the eastern islands of Indonesia. Makassar also has a rich historical past with two mighty kingdoms that withstood the violence of the Dutch colony. The fort of Rotterdam (Benteng Ujung Padang) in the center of Makassar is a well remained remnant of this fight. |

Day 10 Makassar - Bamba Puang
In the early morning you will leave for the district of Maros on the way to Toraja. Maros is known for its National Park Bantimurung-Bulusaraung which is dominated by impressive lime stone cliffs. Walk into this amazing area via rice fields and small villages. A visit will be made to several well hidden caves in which some prehistorically prints can be found. By small canoe, passing nearby limestone cliffs you will leave this area to Bamba Puang, gorgeous located in the mountains.
Day 11 Bamba Puang - Rantepao
Via a small secondary and sometimes bumpy road the journey continues in direction of Rantepao. While passing through villages, see people working on their lands and enjoy the incredible views of this mountainous area. This almost 60 km long road allows for great walking opportunities, so it is up to you if you walk larger or smaller parts of this route, there will be hardly any traffic. Rantepao will be reached in the afternoon.
Day 12 Rantepao
This day the Toraja highlands are to be discovered. Various Toraja villages are visited and to get a good picture of the culture of past and present Toraja. These picturesque villages are located in an amazing mountainous landscape dominated by rice terraces and bamboo forests. Experience the different ways the Toraja burry their death, like hanging graves as it was done in the old days and the well known stone graves guarded by puppets, tau-tau, high up a rock. Also the baby graves in the trunk of big trees as well as huge richly carved traditional houses with their rice barns will be on the program. Moreover, a visit is brought to the mountainous Batututomonga with it’s spectacular views with the opportunity to walk for short or longer distances.
Day 13 / 14 Toraja
Explore Toraja by means of a 2 day trekking through a unique part of undiscovered Toraja not often visited by other tourists with the opportunity to spend the night in a small typical Toraja village. Most of the trip you will walk at high altitudes (900-1300 meter) with astonishing views, through rice terraces balancing on narrow rice dikes and via small dirt roads only used by local people. Crossing small rivers by bamboo bridge or wade through the water. It is possible to extend the trekking by half a day rafting through gorgeous landscapes consisting of steep walls, waterfalls, rice fields, forests and rocks several of them used by iguana’s to regain energy by lying in the sun.
Day 15 Toraja - Bira
After breakfast there is a drive to Bira, an interesting and varied route. Then there is time to rest on the white beach of Bira.
Day 16 Bira - Makassar
This day a journey of discovery will takes place, starting with a visit to Makassar. But first a visit is made in Bira to a fishing village located on Tanjung Lassa. The Buginese are known as the best shipbuilders and sailors of Indonesia. In Tanah Beruh it is possible to see how these beautiful Wooden Phinisi ships are built.
Day 17 Makassar
You will be transferred to the airport of Makassar for your next destination. End of this incredible journey.
