Day 1 Padang - Siberut Island
Arrival at Minangkabau International Airport in Padang. Transfer to the port to go to Siberut Island by ferry. Overnight on ferry.
Day 2 Siberut Island
Arrival at Siberut Island. This day is a leisure day to rest. Overnight in Siberut.
Siberut is the largest and most northern of the Mentawai Island, lying 150 kilometres west of Sumatra in the Indian Ocean. The island is the most important home for the Mentawai people. The western half of the island was set aside as the Siberut National Park in 1993. Much of the island is covered with rainforest. The island is known for its range of primates, including the Kloss Gibbon and the pigtailed languor. Siberut was affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake tsunami, but without any known loss of human life. One report stated that the island may have been raised up to two meters by the earthquake. |
Day 3 Siberut Island - Rorogodh
After breakfast you will be transferred to Rorogodh by speed boat. Overnight in a local house. Discover the traditional culture of the citizens, like the art of tattooing, making canoes, hunting with bow and arrow, the preparation of sago and fishing.
Day 4 Rorogodh - Kulukubuk
In the morning you will discover the daily life of the local people. Then the road goes on to Kulukubuk where a beautiful waterfall can be seen. This waterfall has 2 levels with a total of 70 meters. In Kulukubuk the traditional houses, locally known as Uma, can also be found. In each village, traditional ceremonies, performed by a Sikerei or Shaman will be held. These ceremonies are different in each village. Often these will be performed during weddings, occupation of a new house, to facilitate healing or to expel evil spirits. Day 5 Kulukubuk - Rorogodh
Today you will experience the life of the local citizens by joining them in several activities. Afterwards return to Rorogodh for overnight. Enjoy the beautiful scenery again and relive this unique journey with the memories you have so far.
Day 6 Rorogodh - Padang
After breakfast preparing for return to Muara Siberut. In Muara Siberut you will catch the ferry to Padang. Overnight on ferry.
Padang is the capital of West Sumatra. It is the third largest city of the island and has about 300,000 citizens. The city is famous for its Padang cuisine; these restaurants are to be found throughout the archipelago. With the largest port on Sumatra’s West Coast, this is a merchant town attracting ships trading in goods such as rubber, cinnamon, coffee, tea, cement and coal. If you take a stroll down to the old colonial waterfront you will see century old warehouses stocked with fragrant cinnamon and other spices waiting to be shipped to Jakarta and Singapore. |
Day 7 Padang
Early in the morning arrival in Padang. Followed by a transfer to the hotel. In the midday, Pandai Sikek, the traditional handcraft weaving and carving industry will be visited. Then to the Sianok Canyon and in the evening the Big clock Tower and traditional market will be discovered. Overnight back in Padang.
Day 8 Padang - Minangkabau
Today you will explore Padang by means of a tour. The tour includes Maninjau, Anai Valley with a beautiful waterfall and Minangkabau Village. In Minangkabau you will be brought to your hotel. The rest of the day is for leisure.
Day 9 Minangkabau
After breakfast the journey continues to Pagaruyung palace through Tabek Patah with a nice landscape and a home industry to see or buy souvenirs. Then going back to Bukittinggi passing the Singkarak Lake. Overnight in Bukittinggi.
Day 10 Bukittinggi
In the morning, you will be transferred to the Airport. End of this wonderful journey.
