Day 1 Mataram
Today you will meet the ancestors of the island of Lombok. A visit will be made to the Balinese Meru temple in Cakranegara and the Chinese cemetery, local market in Sweta and Islamic cemetery; Loang Baluk, which is believed to be a sacred place. There is also a large tree where a number of respected people are buried under. Then proceed to Narmada and Pura Lingsar, where legend told that these sacred temples may give a healing strength.
Narmada was the summer palace of the Balinese king, Ngurah Asem, the king of Karagasem. When the king became too old to make a pilgrimage to Segara Anak on the volcano Rinjani, he built the Narmada Temple as a replica of this volcano, so he could still do the annually rituals.
Pura Lingsar is a temple complex which exists of two temples built in 1714. One of these temples is dedicated to the Hinduism and the other to Wetu Telu, an ancient religion of the original population called the Sasaks. This religion is a mix of Adat and elements from the Islam. This complex is the mother of all temples on Lombok. People of all origins, like local Chinese, Buddhists, Christians and sometimes the Wetu Lima, all pray for wealth, rain, health and good luck. The Wetu Lima pray for ‘only’ 3 times a day instead of 5 times a day like most Muslims.

Rice is stored through a raised window. The beruga or the ceremonial hall stands on six pillars, its roof is also covered with elephant grass, providing coolness in hot weather and warmth during cooler nights. Houses or bale are divided into 3 sections, the kitchen, sleeping quarters and the living room. Dance and Drama on Lombok are intricately tied to cultural identity.
